Anniversary of Germany’s oldest university

A jam-packed week of celebrations was the anniversary year’s highlight to mark the 625th anniversary of Heidelberg University. Germany’s oldest university presented itself to the public, its members, alumni, interested parties and friends from all over the world at a host of different events.

Throughout the day, the institutes, faculties and facilities of Ruperto Carola presented themselves on the “UniMeile” in the historic city centre. Several thousand visitors came to the University buildings, the courtyards and squares, as well as 80 designated tents to find out about the achievements in research and teaching.

In addition to the exhibition itself, the programme also included 55 lectures, guided tours, concerts, activities in University buildings and multifaceted programmes on 2 open-air stages – an exciting and entertaining opening event for the University to the citizens of the region, as well as an impressive presentation of the University’s range of services and capabilities.

Together with various University departments, m:con designed and organised three core events during the festival week – the “UniMeile” in Heidelberg’s old town with over 8,000 visitors, the summer party in the Marstallhof with roughly 1,000 visitors and the “Ruperto Carola Summer Night”, the University’s big ball held at the sold-out “Heidelberg Stadthalle”, which went on to conclude the festival week.

Following the “UniMeile”, numerous visitors, members and friends of the University accepted the Rector’s invitation to the summer party in the atmospheric historic courtyard of the “Marstall”, to round off what was an eventful day with live music and dancing in a relaxed and cheerful atmosphere. At the end of the festival week, Heidelberg University invited guests to the “Ruperto Carola Summer Night”. Members, alumni, friends and guests of the University came to the festive ball in the “Stadthalle” to round off the anniversary week and to be enchanted by an atmospheric programme with dance music, jazz lounge and DJ club in addition to culinary delights. One highlight of the summer night was the midnight show with singer and University alumna, Melissa Dietrich.
